Communication Counseling
Communication Counseling involves finding ways to more effectively communicate. It is a key component of relationship therapy, but it can be applied to any number of relationships. Not only is it a skill to be developed on a personal level, it can impact professional relationships as well. All communication contains emotional components and most decisions are influenced by emotion. I help clients learn how to manage their own emotions as the first step in effective communication. Without this skill, clients will ignore even the best of communication tools.
Utilizing the works of Pia Melody, Melody Beattie, Henry Cloud and John Townsend, Gary Chapman, Jean Greaves and Travis Bradberry and many more, I teach clients:
Emotional regulation
Recognizing sabotaging triggers connected with insecurities or wounds
Setting and enforcing boundaries,
Effective speaking and listening skills
Empathy
I believe that effective communication is a critical skill in all phases of life. It was a point of emphasis for me when I was in the technology field and it set me apart from my peers. It has played a critical role in the successes I’ve achieved and was often absent in my failures. This has been true in my marriage, but also in my friendships, professional relationships and even in my role as a parent.
